About
"Nuila" is a rare Central American last name—our name. It was our surprise to learn that Guatemala, the land of our ancestors, was one of the world's premier coffee growing regions, because our family didn't drink coffee until just recently.
But once we did have our first cup, it was perhaps a remarkably short amount of time until we discovered that as much as we found the occasional pleasant cup of coffee in a cafe, there was a whole other world of flavors and possibilities within the green beans of un-roasted coffees pertaining to specific farms in specific locations in the world. Each coffee was a different story, prepared through different methods in different terroir resulting in vastly different beans and flavors. The contrast of a berry forward Ethiopian one morning to something like a rustic, malty, woodsy Yemen the next was mind blowing and so much fun!
It was also our joy to realize that as much craft and care had been put in by the growers, and as impressive as were the efforts of the coffee importer to find those beans and bring them to the US, once the beans reached our home there was still great possibility left within the beans to take them to completely different end results by way of roasting technique and preparation method.
There are whole world's within these little beans! And we found simple joy in anticipating the next day's explorations. It wasn't long before we realized we hadn't been back to a cafe in months because what we were experiencing each morning was simply worlds better. We couldn't keep these experiences to ourselves, and so we decided to offer you the best flavors and roasts we find in our explorations, along with endless ways of preparations you can find on our "Nuilas" Youtube channel.
May you find as much simple joy in these little beans as we have.
